Express Extinguish the Flames - Game 4
The Peewee A/E team started a busy week tonight at the Madhouse on Mutual as we hosted the visiting Flames squad from Aylmer. News prior to the game was not good as forward Alex Stratton had a broken toe, and Jeremy Stiles was home under the weather. Brandt Kloepfer and Parker Cook, fresh off a win in the game prior, made their A/E debut. The boys did not have their usual dominant start and the play for the first half of the period was a back and fourth affair with minimal scoring chances for either team.

Eli North had a couple of great scoring chances, but Aylmer's goalie stood tall and made a couple of great saves to keep the score at 0-0.However, North's persistence and smooth puck carrying skills finally paid off with a fantastic shot over the visiting goalies shoulder to give the home team the lead. Only 38 seconds later, the Express would score again after a nice feed from Tyler Fleming to a streaking North, who duplicated the shot that just got by the Aylmer goalie moments ago. The first ended with the home team up 2-0. The second period was a back and fourth affair and even though our kids gained the offensive zone on many occasions, it was difficult to maneuver in the zone as Aylmer played strong in their defensive zone, limiting our chances. The game remained 2-0 headed to the third.

The third period was a carbon copy of the 2nd. The Flames attacked our zone with a little more force, but Ben Baker kept any rubber from touching the twine, and our defense ensured that secondary chances towards Baker were few and far between. In the end, Baker earned a well deserved shutout, and the boys kept their undefeated record intact with a 2-0 win. A shout out to both Brandt and Parker for such a great effort, even after playing a full game just prior.  Another solid effort to start what is going to be a busy week. The team travels to Norwich on Thursday to face the Knighthawks, before participating in their first team tournament in St. Mary's this weekend. Let's keep the Express train rolling. Solid effort boys!!
