01-20-2019 Warriors Defeat Express in Weekend Tilt
Submitted By: Mike Martineau

The Carmeuse Lime Midget Local League team played host to the Simcoe Warriors on Sunday January 20th. The game was much closer than the 5-1 final score would suggest.

Neither team was able to put the puck in the net during the first period. Ingersoll’s best chance of the opening frame came when Shaun Holt and Tyson Condotta broke in on a two on one.

The Warriors, who are as yet undefeated in the B division round robin series, opened the scoring less than a minute into the second period when Ingersoll got caught running around in their own zone and coughed up the puck. As play continued, Caleb Clifford, battling in the blue paint in front of the Simcoe net, almost got that one back for the Express.

With just over a minute remaining in the second, a Daniel Martineau point shot was deflected on goal by Condotta, but the Simcoe netminder gobbled up the loose puck. The Warriors beat Dawson Sharpe upstairs blocker side to double their lead before the period ended.

Simcoe scored on a nice wrap around play early in the third, but the Express kept battling. With the man advantage, the line of Martineau, Condotta and Clifford buzzed the net and created several good scoring chances, but came up empty on the powerplay. With nine minutes left to play Dylan Goyette spotted defenseman Avery Shrigley pinching, Goyette slid the puck to Shrigley who lifted a perfect shot into the top corner to get Ingersoll within two. Lucas Heather earned an assist on the play.

The Warriors answered back with a goal of their own fifteen seconds later to regain the three goal cushion. Simcoe added one more on the powerplay before the final buzzer, skating away with a 5-1 victory and extending their unbeaten streak to four games.

Ingersoll’s second half record falls to 3-2-1.
