01-04-2019 Shorthanded Carmeuse Lime Tie Port Dover
Coming off the holiday break, the Carmeuse Lime Midget LL team traveled to Port Dover for their opening game to start the second half of the season. Missing three players, the visitors battled hard and earned a well deserved point as they tied the Pirates 1-1.

Both teams showed signs of holiday rust early on in the opening period as neither side generated many high quality scoring chances. The play was back and forth but the game was tied at 0-0 heading into the second.

Ingersoll found its legs in the second period as they played well in the defensive zone early on in the second keeping the Pirates away from the front of goalie Dawson Sharpe's net. This lead to three odd man advantages for the Carmeuse Lime side. The best opportunity came when forwards Paul Sperry and Nolan Costa broke into the Pirates zone on a two on one. Costa waited for the defense to commit and slid a nice pass over to Sperry who was only stopped by a terrific glove save from the Port Dover goalie. This save seemed to spark the home side as they were able to capitalize on an Ingersoll turnover in the neutral zone and find the net behind Sharpe with just over two minutes left in the second.

Missing players seemed to be catching up to the visitors as the pace of play in the third period slowed down. Defenseman Caleb Clifford tried to inject some energy with a couple of nice end to end rushes but was unable to finish. Ingersoll managed to generate some offensive zone time but either hit the Pirates goalie in the chest or missed the net entirely.

With time running out in the game it appeared as though the visitors would suffer another shutout loss. But three second year players went to work in the Pirates end as Costa worked to dig a puck out of the corner. Costa found Defenseman Daniel Martineau open at the right point. With his head up Martineau stepped deeper into the Pirate zone and set to let a wrister go from the point. Instead Martineau found Sperry open off to the side of the Pirate net and Sperry got some redemption as he tapped in the nice set up into the open net with 1:25 left in the game.
