11-04-2018 Overeem Leads Ingersoll Midgets to Big Win Over Wolfpack
Submitted By Mike Martineau.

The Carmeuse Lime Midget local league team played host to the Paris Wolfpack on November 4th in what turned out to be the team’s best outing of the season so far. Matt Overeem led the way with three goals, Lucas Heather and Brydon Johnson also scored for Ingersoll.

Heather opened the scoring when Nolan Costa picked up a loose puck behind the Paris net and spotted number 2 all alone in front. With just over a minute to play in the opening period Ingersoll scored its first powerplay goal of the season when Dylan Goyette fired a shot and Johnson was there to bury the rebound. Lucas White also earned an assist on the play. With seconds remaining in the first, Ingersoll came close to going up 3-0 when Avery Shrigley deflected a Daniel Martineau shot just wide of the Paris net.

The Express train kept rolling in the second, with Ingersoll winning battles along the boards, fore-checking effectively and defending well in their own zone. Dawson Sharpe took a shot off the mask which led to an extended break in the action as the goaltender went to the bench for equipment repairs. As play resumed, Matt Overeem took advantage of a Paris give away to score his first of the game bar down. The Wolfpack fought back, ringing one off the post, but Ingersoll held on to a 3-0 lead as the period wound down.

While Ingersoll enjoyed a two man advantage in the third, Nolan Costa mixed it up in the crease with the Paris goaltender and both players were penalized for roughing. As play continued, Colin VanDyk made a great diving play at the Paris blue line to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Later, Matt Overeem picked up a loose puck, coasted into the slot and let a wicked wrist shot go that beat the Paris goalie cleanly up high. Brydon Johnson earned an assist on the play. Paris got one back a minute later, but Overeem restored Ingersoll’s four goal margin when VanDyk blocked a shot with his skate and sent number 15 in all alone to fire another rocket past the Paris goaltender, completing the hat trick with a short-handed goal. Lucas White assisted on Overeem’s third tally. Paris managed to sneak one more in behind Dawson Sharpe before the period ended, but at the final buzzer Ingersoll celebrated its first victory of the season, downing the Wolfpack 5 to 2.
