CARMEUSE TIES OMHA SERIES WITH AYR FLAMES
Carmeuse Lime Ltd Ingersoll Express Juvenile Rep team registered back-to-back wins this weekend, overcoming a two-game deficit in the OMHA Playdown Series against the Ayr Flames.

Last night at the IDMC, Christian Johnson, #9, assisted by Canden Addley, #19, and Kirk Meek, #12, would score the first goal of Game 3 at 9:58 of the first period. Just three minutes later at 6:40, Tyler Goyette, #15, made the score 2-0, on a solo shot.  Carmeuse would run into penalty difficulties in the last five minutes of the period, but the team’s penalty kill would register three-for-three

The Flames would finally find a way to get the puck past Carmeuse net-minder, Ryan Calder, #33, just seconds into the second period.  It would be the only goal of the period.

For two full periods these teams demonstrated an exhilarated level of play.  From the first drop of the puck to the final minutes of the second period, each team was playing for the same result, but different reasons; Ayr was looking to sweep the series; and Carmeuse Lime Ltd was looking to take the series to Game 4.  This exhilarated level of play can lead to exhaustion, accompanied with a lack of better judgement.  A heated disagreement took place in front the Ayr bench, resulting in an expensive suspension for each team.

The scoreboard showed 15:00 and a score of 2-1 in favour of the hometown team, as the teams skated onto the fresh ice surface for the third period

Kirk Meek, #12, assisted by Colin Weller-Burgess, #2, put a bit of insurance on the scoreboard at 13:45.   Carmeuse Lime Ltd would then seem to write an epilogue on penalty woes, which started at 9:14 and saw the team play with only three skaters thereafter.  Calder would be flattened in the crease after being administered a head shot by an Ayr player, who received a four-minute penalty for his effort. The Ayr penalty brought little relief to the Carmeuse penalty kill as Ayr would make good on a penalty shot at 5:34.  The next five minutes were, what seemed to be, the longest in hockey history.  When the buzzer finally sounded the score was 3-2 in favour of Carmeuse Lime Ltd.  The two teams now prepared to play Game 4, Sunday, 2PM at Ayr Farmers’ Mutual Arena.

CAMPAIGNE.jpgEarlier today, Mitch Graham, #1, (yes you read that right), assisted by Quinn Campaigne, #7, scored the first goal of the game at 3:28 of the first period.  The Flames would make good on a powerplay opportunity and even the score at 1:40. Determined to win the period, Campaigne, with the help of Jeff Couse, #5, and Noah Haig, #14, made the score 2-1.

Backed by the solid net-minding of Ryan Calder, Carmeuse stayed focused, registering three goals in the second period (12:59, Luke Zegers, assisted by Jeff Couse and Goyette; 12:32, Graham with a solo shot; 9:08, Campaigne, assisted by Goyette),earning a 5-1 lead.

As the third period got underway, Carmeuse appeared to be tired and Ayr quickly took control, scoring two quick game-changing goals at 5:58 and 4:19.  The Flames continued to look for ways to narrow the Carmeuse lead and it looked like they would succeed, when, at 3:25, the Carmeuse penalty kill would be tested for one last time.

Carmeuse remained determined as Ayr pulled their net-minder at the two-minute mark of the period. Calder would be resilient and brilliant in net as his team worked to secure a strong presence in front of him.  Then, with only thirty-two seconds remaining, Campaigne, assisted by Goyette and Johnson solidified the 6-3 win.

Game 4 will be played 9:30 PM, next Saturday, February 24, at the IDMC.  Good seats are still available.
