Atom Express LL #2 vs. Burford Coyotes
It was a busy weekend for the Vision Property Mgmt. team as they hit the road for a game Saturday and played the host on Sunday.  Saturday the team boarded the Express train to Burford to take on the Coyotes in search of their first win of the season.  The team was fired up in the dressing room and they entered to ice with a full tank of steam.  The pregame skate came to an end and the players lined up a centre ice.  There was a lengthy discussion amongst the refs and it was determined the came could not start until the Burford goalie was fitted the proper neck guard.  After 8 minutes, a suitable piece of equipment was attached to the goalies helmet and the game was finally underway.

The puck dropped to start the first period and the puck and players moved end to end with a furious pace.  Ingersoll was looking like they mean business, doing a great job of clearing the puck and going on the offensive.  The pace was quick and players needed to change on the fly as there wasn't many whistles early on.  Ingersoll's #4 Kadin Vandamme took the puck on a pass from #7 Carson Ling and headed up the left boards.  The Burford defence man closed in and Kadin tried to squeeze through the hole between the player and the boards.  The Burford player was not going to give up that spot and quickly closed the gap sending Kadin crashing into the boards.  The ref raised his arm to signal the first penalty of the game and the Express train was on the power play.  The Coyotes played well with a man down, just dumping the puck down the ice and easily killed off the 2 mins.  Half the period ticked off the clock before the first puck crossed a goal line.  At the 5:22 mark, Burford had the puck deep in the Ingersoll zone and pile of players filled the front of the net.  The puck came free and a Coyote fired a puck from the hash mark and found the 5 hole to light the lamp.  That put Burford up 1-0 and they stayed on the offence.  The puck was fired straight back into the Ingersoll end of the ice off the face off and Ingersoll was trapped.  Shots came from everywhere and the Ingersoll goalie received a little help from a sliding #6 Nicholas Carney who made a great sliding block in front of the net.  Awesome effort!  The pressure was too much to handle and puck was tipped in off a high shot from the point at 4:04 bringing the score up to 2-0.  Ingersoll regrouped and went on the offence putting a few good shifts together and holding the puck deep in the Burford end of the ice.  #3 Owen Vander Baan made perfect pass from the top of the circle to #17 JR Sholdice who was wide open at the side of the net.  JR made a great attempt at a one timer but the puck sailed wide of the net holding the score at 2-0.  Burford charged back down the ice from the face-off and fired the puck high off the Ingersoll goalies shoulder and rang the bell of the cross bar.  The puck flipped over the back of the net and buzzer signalled the end of the first period.
The second period kicked off with Ingersoll doing some excellent passing and working the puck deep into the Burford zone.  The Coyotes tried clearing the puck up the boards but #2 Nathan Kapitor read the play and was ready to hold the line.  Nathan quickly passed the puck to a waiting #17 JR Sholdice in front of the net who slipped the puck through the goalie to light the lamp at 9:31!  That cut the Burford lead in half and the score is 2-1.  The play was back and forth with both goalies getting lots of work between the pipes.  Ingersoll's goalie #1 Damien Vandamme made a great triple save with the last shot going straight off the mask.  Way to use your head Damien!  Ingersoll followed up that great goalie effort with a break away of their own.  #11 Cole Ialenti raced down the right side of the ice and got a quick shot away before the defence man could catch him.  The puck bounced off the edge of the goalies pad and slid into the corner.  Nice try Cole!.  The Coyotes moved the puck down the ice and jammed up the front of the Ingersoll net.  A shot came from the blue line and bounced through a sea of legs and into the back of the net.  Sorry Damien, you didn't have a chance on that one.  That goal came at 3:51 making the score 3-1  and that's how it stayed for the rest of the period.
The third period was full of goals starting with Burford at 11:54.  Ingersoll gave up a 2-0 and Damien made a great first save but the rebound was snagged by the trailing player who buried the puck behind the sprawling goalie.  The next goal came quickly after at 10:31 with Burford making a nice rush up the left side and a shot off the post pushed the score up to 5-1.  The Coyotes were really hungry for goals and knocked in another a minute later on a slick back hander.  The scoreboard showed 6-1 with 9:31 remaining in the third.  Ingersoll was running out of steam and after long time of puck possession the Coyotes put another point up on the board at 5:08.  The Express team didn't give up and #15 Cole Brownscombe found himself on a semi breakaway.  Cole fired the puck through the 5 hole to get his first goal of the year and it was a nice one!  Great hustle Cole!  That cut the Coyote lead to 7-2 with 2:02 remaining.  The celebration was short lived as Burford got the goal back 10 seconds to make the score 8-2 and that's how it would end.   Lots of great shifts happened between the goals and all players should be proud.
