Goalie Extraordinaire: Bailey Parizeau
Goalies are all too often the unsung heroes of a hockey team. They can become a shining star when the team is on a winning streak, or a scapegoat when the opposite happens and the team experiences loss after loss. The goalie, however, is only one person on a hockey team. The fact is, when the goalie has to stop few shots, it means the rest of the team is doing their jobs well; but when a goalie is beaten by a shot, it always means the other five players on the ice failed at keeping the opposing team at bay. Enter the goalie of Shooters Sports Photography, Bailey Parizeau: goalie extraordinaire!
Game after game, this midget team has been brought to defeat, with eleven losses and no wins – though they did tie one game. The unsung hero of this team truly is Parizeau, who is constantly faced with a barrage of pucks from opposing teams. This was brought out in plain site on December 1st, as Shooters Sports Photography travelled to Tillsonburg to face a rival midget team.
In Tillsonburg, the Ingersoll midgets lost their game. Forget the score – 7 to 2 for Tillsonburg. The shots-on-net said it all! By the end of the first period, Parizeau had ten shots on him, and two had gone in. The Tillsonburg goalie hadn’t let any goals past him . . . but then again no shots had been made on him either! By the end of the second period, the trend continued: Tillsonburg’s goalie had stopped a "whopping" five shots, while Parizeau had stopped nineteen burning pucks from getting on the scoreboard!
As the game came to an end, Parizeau had saved thirty shots! (Tillsonburg’s goalie had only saved nine pucks.) Both goalies had an 82% stop rate! (In highschool, an 82% in anything would make this writer VERY happy!) Parizeau (and his team) should be very happy with this rating, and with his performance game after game. Shooters Sports Photography has a great goalie guarding their net – a true hero. Now, let’s see if the rest of the team can step up and match Parizeau’s 82% excellence!
