Verspeeten Peewee Drop Pair
The Verspeeten Cartage Express Peewees dropped both games this week in Intertown Local League play.  Traveling to Delhi and hosting Norwich, two of the top teams in the league, the boys knew they would be in for two tough matches as they tried to keep their unbeaten streak going.

The Delhi Rockets #1 team proved to be too much for the Express as they handed our local team a 4-2 loss.  The game opened with a fast, furious pace as the Rockets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes.  Parker Huitema quickly replied tapping in a rebound of an Emmitt Robinson shot.  Delhi regained their 2 goal lead less than a minute later making the score 3-1 before the midway point of the first period.

The pace continued back and forth but the goals stopped coming.  Ingersoll narrowed the gap late in the second as Robinson scored assisted by Huitema.  The third period continued much the same as the second with goaltender Hayden White standing tall in the Ingersoll net matching his Delhi counterpart shot for shot.  Eventually, the Rockets managed to score an empty net goal with White on the bench in a favour of an extra attacker making the final 4-2.

The Norwich Knighthawks came to town last week and the Express were looking to hand the visitors their first loss of the season.  Norwich came out strong, peppering White in the net but could only manage 1 goal in the first period.  The Verspeeten crew continued to fight hard against a strong skating team and tied the game on Robinson’s first of the night.  Norwich took the lead back on the next shift but Robinson replied right back after taking a Huitema breakout pass and going in on a breakaway, deking to his backhand and dumping the puck in the open net.  After two periods, the Express and Knighthawks were tied at 2.

The third period opened with Norwich immediately taking the lead.  Midway through the third period, Norwich took a penalty and sent the home town boys to the power play which they converted on in only 11 seconds.  Robinson scored his third of the game taking a pass from Alex Georgiou and going high over the goaltender to even the score.  Again, a resilient Norwich team took the lead right back within a minute and would not allow the Express to get the equalizer over the final 5 minutes.  The Verspeeten team fell 4-3 but never quit in the face of adversity and have shown tremendous growth over their 2 games this week.  The boys have a slow week with only 1 game upcoming as they host the Port Dover Pirates.
