The Verspeeten Cartage Peewee Local League Express kept their unbeaten streak going with two wins this past week.  The streak, now at 8 games, consists of 5 wins and 3 ties.

The Express hosted the Paris Wolfpack #2 team and earned a hard fought win.  After a scoreless first half of the opening period where the teams traded numerous chances, Emmitt Robinson opened the scoring after taking a pass from Adam Klotz at the side of the net and lifting one over the Wolfpack goalie.  Early in the second, Aaron Lahey extended the lead to two, putting one in, assisted by Cameron White.  Parker Huitema followed Lahey with another goal as he banged home a rebound off a Robinson breakaway.  After two periods, the Verspeeten crew was ahead 3-0.  The Wolfpack didn’t quit and foiled goalie Hayden White’s bid for a shutout late in the third, but it wouldn’t be enough as the local boys won 3-1.

Saturday, the boys headed west to take on the Dorchester Dragons in an exhibition game.  The boys came out fast and dominated play but couldn’t get one past a strong Dragon goaltender.  Eventually the Express found a hole as Huitema opened the scoring three minutes into the second period, assisted by Robinson and Cameron White.  The Dragons replied before the end of the second and then took a 2-1 lead early in the third.  Alex Georgiou took a lead pass from Cameron Holland and scored on a breakaway, holding off a Dorchester defender as he fought his way to the net to tie the game at 2.  Seconds later Robinson gave the Express their second lead of the game assisted by Huitema.  The game continued to go back and forth as Dorchester tied the game again a few minutes later.  As the game wound down and it looked as though it would end in a draw, Georgiou stripped a Dragon defenceman of the puck in the offensive zone, got a shot on goal which was eventually banged home by Keagan Clifford with 29 seconds to play.  The Verspeeten team held on to come away with a 4-3 victory.  The boys will look to continue their winning ways with 2 games this week as they visit the Delhi Rockets #1 and host the Norwich Nighthawks.
