Ingersoll Express Novice Select Tournaments

The Ingersoll Express Novice Select finished 2 excellent tournaments in the month of February.

Tournament 1 was the Richmond Hill Stars Select Tournament.

Express started the tournament with a big victory over the Aurora Tigers Select.  Winning 8-0 and starting the tournament with a bang.

Next game was against a very good Newmarket Redmen Select.  This game was a game the team would have to claw their way back on.  Ingersoll was done 4 to 2 with 4 mins left in the game.  The team rallied and worked hard to come back for the win with the final goal coming with 4.5 secs left.  Final score was 5-4.

Game 3 was against the tournament hosts Richmond Hill Stars.  This boys were ready for this one and Riley was not letting anything get past him to help win this one 5-0.

After taking first place in the round robin it was time for the semifinals.  Ingersoll drew Aurora Tigers for the second time.  This was a different Aurora team in this game as they came out hungry.  Ingersoll had to work extra hard in this game to pull out a 3-1 win to move on to the finals.

In the finals Ingersoll was going against Newmarket for a second time and knew it was going to be a tough go.  It was a back and forth game throughout and Ingersoll was pouring on lots of pressure in the final minute but could not bury a tying goal past the Newmarket goalie who was on fire.  Ingersoll lost this game 3-2 to finish the tournament in second place.

A big thank you to 2 different tournament sponsors.

Tournament 2 was the Boston Pizza St Thomas Stars Select Tournament

Game 1 was against a very good team from the NYHL the Willowdale Blackhawks Select Tier 3.  Ingersoll knew they were playing against a team from a much higher division but went out to battle as hard as they could.  Ingersoll was out matched in this one as Willowdale winning 7-0.  The score will not show how well our player of the game played, goalie Riley Vyse had to be on his game to keep the score that close.  Ingersoll seen some opportunities in the game and was hoping for another meeting in the finals.

Game 2 Ingersoll met with the tournament hosts St Thomas Stars Select.  Ingersoll came angry after their previous game.  Pulled off a good 4-0 victory.

The final game of round robin was a battle against a very good Dofasco Steelhawks Select.  The 2 teams battled 0-0 for almost 2 full periods.  Dofasco took a 1 goal lead just before the end of the second period.  Ingersoll’s never give up attitude helped them come back and they won the game 2-1 to finish 2nd in round robin behind Willowdale.

In the semifinal game Ingersoll had to go against Dofasco again to earn another game against Willowdale.  This one was going to be a little more of a challenge as 4 different kids started flu like symptoms the night before.  One of the teams scoring leaders Logan tried his best to play on under 2 hours of sleep and being sick all night, but could only make it 1.5 periods before packing it in.  Other kids were not feeling well enough to finish the game but tried their best to make it through.  Dofasco was really going hard and earned a well-deserved 3-0 win over Ingersoll.

All the coaches of this select team would like to thank the parents for their support and dedication to the team.  Also a big thanks to the kids who gave 100% and never gave up.  They always listened and wanted to be there.  We are amazed at the improvement in this team and each individual player.  Good luck to your local league teams in the last part of your playoffs.
