The St Mary’s
Rock found themselves in a two-goal deficit after Carmeuse Lime Ltd scored late
in the first period during last night’s game at the Ingersoll District Memorial
Centre. At 5:17, #7 Tyler Arts, assisted
by #6 Eric Savoie and #8 Nick Likins, demonstrated why they will be
representing Carmeuse Lime Ltd at the Minor Midget and Midget All-Star Games
tonight in Lambton Shores. First to
congratulate the trio was Carmeuse Captain #15 Dawson Kays, who will join Likins
at the Midget All-Star Game. Just a
little over a minute later, #14 Ben Jentz, assisted by #11 Tanner Gedies and
#17 Bram O’Connor made the score 2-0.
Arts, assisted by Savoie and #19 Jack VanEgdom, made good on Carmeuse’s first powerplay opportunity at 11:02 of the second period. Arts would then lend his services to Kays, who made the score 4-0 at 10:41. Two more goals would follow, Savoie with a solo shot at 6:33 and at 1:36, O’Connor, assisted by Jentz and Gedies. The Carmeuse penalty kill proved effective twice in the period.
Carmeuse would capitalize on the two powerplay opportunities in the third period; at 10:50 Savoie, assisted by #9 Ryan Cooper and at 5:02, Arts, assisted by #16 Brock Swain, scored his third for the night.
Last night’s win solidifies first place for Carmeuse in the Shamrock Midget AE/Midget Minor standings and the Strathroy Jr Rockets were watching the game’s outcome very closely. A Carmeuse loss would have presented Strathroy opportunity to move into first place, providing they win their last remaining games. The Jr Rockets administered Carmeuse’s only regular season loss. These two teams will face-off at Strathroy’s Gemini Centre, December 28 at 8:30 PM.
As of the Shamrock League’s December General Meeting, Carmeuse was in first place and this achievement meant Carmeuse Head Coach Rick Arts and Assistant Coach Matt Duncan were named coaches to the Shamrock Minor Midget North All-Star Team.
The coaching staff of each Shamrock Midget AE/Midget team selects two players to the Minor Midget (15 year olds) and to the Midget All-Star teams. Savoie and Arts will represent Carmeuse at the Minor Midget All-Star Game and Kays and Likins will play in the Midget All-Star Game, tonight in Lambton Shores at 7:00 and 9:00, respectively. (Kays was named Player of the Game at the 2014 Minor Midget All-Star Game held in Blenheim.)
