Championship Saturday
On Saturday afternoon, Ingersoll Butterworth's Express was trying to cap off a magical run by defeating Waterford in the Southern Counties "B" division chamionship game in Tillsonburgh in front of a loud and boisterous crowd.
In the first period, Butterworth's opened the scoring on a goal by E. Kish with assists going to E. Jewkes and K. Winkworth. Waterford tied the game shortly after, but late in the period S. House scored to make it 2-1 with the assist going K. Winkworth. U. Jewkes made it 3-1 early in the second with the assist going to R. Gregg. With Waterford scoring late in the second, it set the stage for an unbelieveable third period. Butterworth's ran into serious penalty trouble early in the third going down two players. This was the turning point of the game as the penalty killers took control of the game. They were so good killing the penalties that Waterford didn't even register a single shot on goal. U. Jewkes then continued his magic by scoring his second of the game and then with the net empty, he got the hat trick and 7 yes 7 goals between the semi-final and the championship games. Make the final, Ingersoll Butterworth's Express 5, Waterford 3!!!!! Ingersoll Butterworth's Express is your 2015/2016 Southern Counties "B" division champions. N. Crane was the foundation of this team keeping his team in every game he possibly could and it showed once again in the championship. Every player contributed in one way or another for this team and should be very proud of themselves. I know their families, friends and Ingersoll Minor Hockey are.
