Having the First and Last Word
At the halfway mark of the first period, Tyler Goyette, #15 for Louie’s Pizza and Pasta, would lend his offensive services to #2 Colin Weller-Burgess, who then made the opening statement in the first game of the Southern Counties Playoffs against the visiting Tillsonburg Tornadoes, last Saturday night in Ingersoll. Tillsonburg would later score one of their own, but the tie would be short-lived when,  with only thirty seconds left on the clock, Louie’s’ #10 Aaron Lonsberry would have the last word in the period as he eloquently put a solo shot behind the Tillsonburg net-minder.  It was only the beginning.

After winning the first period, it looked as if Louie’s may lose the second when Tillsonburg scored early in the period.  That is until 4:17, when #7 Tyler Arts, with some help from #12 Nathan Gould, made an offensive statement of their own.  Louie’s had tied the second period and were winning the game 3-2.

The script of the third period played out just like that of the first.  It was an encore performance by Louie’s.  In this period, Tanner Moon skated softly and carried a big stick, earning an assist on each of the goals.  Louie’s #6 Eric Savoie would make his statement at 13:13.  Tillsonburg would reply only two minutes later.  As the clock slowly counted down, Tillsonburg would pull their goalie to allow an extra attacker.  The Louie’s net-minder, #1 Noah Robinson, would successfully answer every challenge.   Then, exactly thirteen minutes after Savoie’s goal, Louie’s Captain, #15 Tyler Goyette, would have the final word of the game, just seconds after stepping out of the penalty box; the final score 5-3.

This win came just one week after Louie’s at-home loss to the Tornadoes in game 5 of their O.M.H.A. Play Down series; a series that will remain forged in the memories of Ingersoll hockey fans for years to come.  On this night though, it was Louie’s who claimed the win.  Though their O.M.H.A. Play Down bid had ended, each Louie’s player showed they were focused on a successful bid to win the Southern Counties League Playoffs.

Louie’s Head Coach Craig Robinson met with the media by phone later in the week.   Like the players, the coaching staff remains focused on what is ahead. “As a coaching staff we have tried to shift the team's focus to winning Southern Counties and the Pepsi Tournament, the final tournament at the end of the year, but it is tough to face the team that just put you out of O.M.H.A.'s.  To their credit, the young men that make up the Bantam Rep team surprised us yet again with another strong outing.  We knew what we needed to do to win the game and they went out and did it, in commanding fashion with a 5-3 victory.  Our boys were able to play the physical game required to beat Tillsonburg, yet keep their emotions in check and stay out of the box, for the most part. Even down two players we came out strong and stayed strong, sending the message to all that come the end of the season, it's going to be an Ingersoll -Tillsonburg matchup in the Southern Counties finals, and we will be the ones taking home the banner.”
