Double Overtime Win for Novice L.L. Team Butterworths
The arena was filled with excitement Tuesday, March 4th as Team Butterworths faced Anderson Appliances. It was the second place team Anderson Appliances vs third place Team Butterworths. The winner of this game would qualify for the playoff finals.
Anderson Appliances took the lead one minute into the first period. Halfway into the period, Anderson Appliances received a two minute penalty for having too many players on the ice. Team Butterworths worked hard to take advantage, but no such luck. A few minutes later, Team Butterworths got a two minute tripping penalty. Ingersoll #2 did a great job of running the clock down. The first period ended with Ingersoll #1 leading 1-0.
The battle continued throughout the second period. With thirty two seconds left in the period, #16 E. Cuthbert skated on a breakaway with the puck and tied the game up 1-1.
Team Butterworths took the lead in two minutes into the third period, when #20 N. Pike scored unassisted on the Anderson goaltender. The excitement continued for what seemed like an eternity. Neither team was giving up. Anderson Appliances tied the game up with just over two minutes left in the third period. Game now tied 2-2.
Both teams continued to play their hardest through the overtime period. Anderson Appliances received a two minute slashing penalty with only seventeen seconds left. The fourth period remained tied 2-2.
The penalty minutes ticked by through the fifth period. With a minute and half into the second period of overtime, Team Butterworths scored. #12 J. Kloepfer passed the puck over to #16 E. Cuthbert to score. Butterworths takes the game 3-2 in double overtime.
Onward to the Finals in Langton!!
