Royal Canadian Legion Br. 119 Boys Unbeaten in Four
Royal Canadian Legion Br. 119 midget LL hockey team are on a four game unbeaten streak. With a win and three consecutive ties, the boys play Langton twice to finish the season. The team must win both games against Langton to qualify for the playoffs.
The streak began Feb. 8th at the Carmeuse Lime
Invitational here in Ingersoll against the Thamesford Attack. Thamesford opened the scoring in the second
period when Steven Lang banged in his own rebound. Assisting on the goal was Brandon Hansford
and Daneil Fell. Ingersoll replied early
in the third when Justin Han fed a pass to Shane Pellow who roofed a wrist shot
past the Attack goalkeeper. Rodney
Morrison also drew an assist on the goal.
With the game winding down, Han again fed another pass, this time to
Brady Soetemans who made no mistake beating the Attack goalie. Final score 2-1 Ingersoll. Defenseman Derik Leonard was named player of
the game for Ingersoll.
On Feb. 9th, the Legion boys travelled to Langton
for an afternoon game. With only seven
skaters and goalie Kyle Cook, the Legion boys put in a gutsy performance and
returned home with a 2-2 tie. The first
period was scoreless as Cook was sharp from the opening faceoff. Langton managed to score a pair in the second
and took a 2-0 lead into the third. On
the first shift of the third, Bradley Bushell raced into the Langton zone and
setup Justin Han for an easy tap in.
Midway through the third, Jack Skillings tied the score assisted by A.J
Visser and Bushell. Brenden Costello and
Rodney Morrison were stellar on defence.
Forward Kirklan Clark played extremely hard at both ends of the ice.
On Feb. 10th, the team travelled to Port Dover to
take on the first place team. Ingersoll
opened the scoring when A.J Visser redirected a Justin Han pass. Port Dover claimed the lead with a pair to
end the first period. Ingersoll retook
the lead with a pair of their own in the second while shutting down Port
Dover. Lucas Bader from Mike Mannell and
Kirklan Clark were first to score. Near
the end of the period, Justin Han put Ingersoll in the lead assisted by Clark
and Brendan Costello. Shane Pellow found
the back of the net with seven minutes to play that put Ingersoll
ahead 4-3. Assists were credited to Bader and Malcolm
Rowe. Port Dover answered again with one
minute left in regulation on the power play to make the final 4-4. Another great team effort from the Legion
boys who do not know the word quit.
On Feb. 12th, the team wrapped up their busy week
with a 0-0 draw against the visiting Six Nation midget team. Kyle Cook earned the shutout for Ingersoll
with several key saves throughout the game. The Ingersoll team started slow, but finished
strong creating many scoring chances in the second and third periods. Mike Mannell and AP callup Dakota Lednicky
were both stopped on breakaways in the second.
Another great team
effort from your
