Express Midgets open OMHA Playdowns with win over Glanbrook
The Ingersoll Express CAW Local 88 Midget Reps embarked on what they hope will be a long and prosperous journey through this year's OMHA Playdowns on Sunday January 9 in Ingersoll.

The Local 88s drew Glanbrook as a first round opponent and were entering uncharted waters as they had not faced the highly touted Rangers all season. With just five regular season losses on the ledger, Glanbrook looked to pose a serious threat to the Express in their hopes of escaping a first round ousting. That threat may still exist but if game one's tale is as telling as it looked the Express Midgets are for real and it may be Glanbrook who should have the jitters. Jacob Parkhill put Ingersoll in front with help from Jake Schneider at just two minutes and change into the opening frame. Darren Tyrrell expanded the lead to a pair, assisted by Alex Vyse two minutes later and Vyse then capped off a strong first period with a goal himself, assisted by Tyrrell and Kyle Hooper. Neither squad hit paydirt in the second and the Local 88s took a 3-0 advantage into the final period of play. A Hooper from Vyse marker early in the third period gave the home side a chance to breathe easier as goaltender Blake Telfer's steady play in the irons kept the Ranger shooters at bay and helped secure the shutout in his team's 4-0 series opening victory. Game two in the six point series goes Tuesday January 11 in Glanbrook.
