Searles Motor Products Novice Reps fall to Norwich, win in Port Dover

TuesdayJanuary 13th,Ingersoll’s Searles Motor Products Novice Rep team traveled toNorwich for an early evening game. It was a hard fought effort byboth teams. Ingersoll spent much of the night in Norwich’s end, however the Norwich defense were big, fast and able to get in frontof almost every puck Ingersoll sent to the Norwich net. Norwich sentits quick forwards dodged Ingersoll’s defense but were constantlythwarted by Ingersoll goalie Noah Robinson.

Norwich finally broke the 0 – 0 tie halfway through the second scoring on the power play.  Ingersoll kept up the attack, led by captain Sommer Lednicky, keeping the score a close 1 – 0 late into the third but were unable to capitalize on their chances.  Norwich salted away a 2 – 0 victory with less than three minutes left on a break away goal.  Despite not scoring, the game still felt like a win as the entire Ingersoll team put forth a strong effort against a tough opponent.
Wednesday January 14th, , Ingersoll’s Searles Motor Products Novice Rep team braved slippery driving conditions to face Port Dover one week after they tied in Ingersoll.  Port Dover came out strong in the first breaking into the Ingersoll end on a 3 – on – 1.  Ingersoll goalie Noah Robinson made the first and second saves, but unfortunately was taken out of the play by his own defense man and the trailing Port Dover forward was able to lift the puck over the two sprawling Ingersoll players into the open net to take the lead.
Port Dover’s own goalie put up a fight turning away many Ingersoll shots taking a 1-0 lead into the second.  Ingersoll got on the board less than a minute into the second as Justin Holmes broke in alone and managed to rifle a shot through unassisted tying the game.
The score remained tied by excellent goaltending at both ends of ice until there were only seven minutes left in the game.  With a scramble in front of Port Dover’s net Holmes scored his second goal of the game for Ingersoll assisted by Matt Berzins and Tanner Gray.   Ingersoll then went into full defensive mode and was able to successfully kill off a penalty and turn away Port Dover’s last push with the net empty to come home with a 2-1 win.
