Submitted By Brian Nutt on Saturday, December 12, 2009
Louie’s Pizza & Pasta Bantam Rep team came within an overtime goal of becoming champions in the Bracebidge Bantam A tournament the weekend of Dec. 4th .

Randy Weatherhead played an exceptional game in the final by not allowing a regulation goal to send Louie’s into overtime knotted at 0-0 against the Penetang Flames. The Flames scored early in the overtime frame with the teams playing 3 on 3 hockey.

Ingersoll got to the final by placing second in their division with wins against Bracebridge and Huntsville and an earlier loss to Penetang.

Louie’s Pizza surprised Huntsville 4-1 in the first game of the tournament as the Otters had not loss this season. Jordan Travis had 2 goals and Austin Kielt and Dylan Robinson each scored once. Brett Nicholson, Ryan Allard, Jesiah Sweetland and Michael Nutt all had assists. Michael Hazen played stellar in goal allowing just the one goal on 21 shots.

Ingersoll had an easy time with the Bracebridge Bears coasting to a 5-1 victory with Garrett Maier having a solid game scoring twice. Michael Nutt, Jake Schneider and Jacob Parkhill also scored.. Parkhill, Schneider and Nutt chipped in with 2 assists while Graham Hall, Kevin Hazen, Dylan Robinson, Brent Nicholson and Jesiah Sweetland had one helper each.

Louie’s fell 4-1 to Penetang in the last of the round robin games with Jesiah Sweetland scoring the lone Express goal.

Ingersoll crossed over to play the first place Kincardine Kanucks in a semi-final match-up where Quintin Pow put Ingersoll on the board early converting on a Michael Nutt pass. This 1-0 lead held up until the third period when Garrett Maier added an insurance goal snapping a wrist shot into the top corner. Dylan Robinson finished off the scoring sliding a Garrett Anderson pass into the empty cage. Randy Weatherhead picked up the shutout in net.

That win set up the dramatic final where Ingersoll had its chances early but could not beat the Flames goalie even though they had two separate 5 on 3 man advantages.

Loiue’s capped off a successful weekend with a 1-0 win over Twin Centres on Tuesday and a 5-1 win over Aylmer on Thursday . Jesiah Sweetland scored against Twin Centres with Michael Hazen stopping 16 shots for the shutout. Five different players hit the net against Aylmer with Travis, Nutt, Anderson, Allard and Parkhill all scoring goals.

Ingersoll’s 5 game league unbeaten streak came to end Dec. 1st with a 2-1 loss to Tavistock Titans with Michael Nutt scoring the lone Ingersoll goal.

The team continues to climb in the league standings with a record of 10-5-1 for 21 points which puts them in third place.
