BUTTERWORTH ESSO EXTENDS THEIR UNBEATEN STREAK TO FIVE GAMES
Submitted By Mike Moran on Monday, February 23, 2009
Butterworths Esso is playing excellent hockey lately in their drive for a playoff position.  Riding a 3 game unbeaten streak into last week they added to their total with a win and a tie.  On Feb.8 Butterworths hosted Burford in an evening game.

Butterworths came out fast in the first period, ending the period ahead by a score of 2-0.  Butterworths goals were scored by Owen Hill assisted by Brendan Costello and by Jonathan Andrews with the assist going to Bruce Mathies.  Burford exploded in the second period, scoring four goals to Butterworths one, finishing the period ahead of Butterworths 4-3.  Butterworths goal was scored by Jack Skillings unassisted.  In the third period Butterworths knew they had to find a way to stop Burford and find a way to get back on the score sheet, and they did just that by holding Burford scoreless while Butterworths scored a late goal to finish the game with a 4-4 tie.  Butterworths goal was scored by Coulton Cameron from Jack Skillings.

On Feb.15 Butterworths hosted Simcoe in the rematch of a game that saw Simcoe dominate them, but things were different this time.  Butterworths played superb zone hockey and backed by some good saves from their goalie they took a 2-0 lead until Simcoe scored late in the period, with Butterworths ending the first period with a 2-1 lead.  Butterworths goal scorers were Brody Sanderson assisted by Tristen Koster and by Tristen Koster assisted by Brody Sanderson.  Both teams played a scoreless second period which featured many good scoring chances for Butterworths while their defense shut down Simcoes offense.  In the third period, after fighting hard Butterworths were rewarded with a goal, scored by Tristen Koster assisted by Brady Soetermans giving them a 3-1 lead, but this one wasn't over yet. With fifty-five seconds left in the game Simcoe scored, then pulled their goalie in an effort to tie this one, but Butterworths, having played hard, disciplined hockey all game weren't about to let that happen.  Butterworths played keep away with the puck and all Simcoe could do was watch as the clock tick down to zero as Butterworths skated away with a well deserved and hard fought 3-2 victory.
